Calamansi Muffin- Real Goodness

My obsession to sour sweet pastry started when my ex craved a hot coffee after a disappointing water activity right smack at the middle of Boracay under the sweltering summer heat. 

Obviously Starbucks was our first choice but thank goodness for our keen sense of misdirection we ended up with Real coffee.

I am not a fan of blueberry so I ditch that overrated bitch muffin and opt to try something else. The owner, I assume, recommended calamansi muffin. After my first bite it was like sex. Utterly addicting and equally exciting in every single bite. 

My love affair with sour sweet hot and sometimes savory pastries grew from sour dough to lemon bar. 

This calamansi muffin consume me like hell. It is "siksik" one muffin can make one full snack. Fresh out of the oven or refrigerated for at least 2-3 days are fine and still amazingly satisfying. Not too sour not, not too sweet and definitely not bland. The aroma of these babies are so calming that it always remind me of good old days.

Good Taste Cafe and Restaurant- Unbelievably affordable good eats.

Thanks to SCTEX and TPLEX we arrived in Baguio at lease 3 hours earlier than our normal drive. Normally, for dinner in Baguio it is either we eat in SM (which all of the restaurants in it you can see in almost all SM in Metro Manila) or take out food from then again any crappy fast food that you can see in every corners in Metro Manila.

Then I saw this Good Taste restaurant that keeps on popping in my Google search. When I spotted their signage near our hotel, I immediately recommended it to my mom and she reluctantly said OK. It was like a battle between Good Taste and Gilligans or Jollibee thank God mom agreed.

The place is not intimidating. However, it is freaking 4 floor restaurant and its crowded. Some floors were reserved for functions or events, of course, but still 4 floors! Damn. It has this feeling of those old big restaurants in Binondo. It was packed and I was glad we were seated immediately.

Our server was kind enough to suggest their best sellers. As soon as he mentioned crispy pata my mom face elated. She loves pork, anything pork will do like Carry Bradshaw loves shoes. Hahaha.

CRISPY PATA

It was huge. Fit for a pulutan or to feed a family of four. Lacks flavor though. It tasted like good old lazy fried pork legs that's all. BLAH!

CHOPSUEY

My dads choice because he is kinda health conscious like that. We regret ordering it. Lacks flavor, poorly plated and unforgiving. They ruined the freshness of the veggies. Poor broccoli.

SWEET AND SOUR FISH FILLET

This was our choice, my bother and I. After being disappointed again on how bland their sweet and sour fish fillet was, we wondered if their buttered chicken is any good. Ummm.

Then again I am glad we tried Good Taste. Though the food lacks flavor, the place is warm and welcoming. Our dining experience was a delight because we are all in a good mood. The staff were friendly and did I mention the price is insanely cheap. Check out their menu below.

Rub Ribs- It's a MAN's food

The day after the most sought after wedding of my friend Pahm, my BF then now my ex BF and I were craving of a MAN food. Food that we can use our bare hands on. Food that are messy that we can suck and lick our fingers clean. Food that are so bad and naughty it is like an illicit affair. Foodgasm!

It is funny because we imagined our own wedding that night, we were sticking to a beach wedding with a light sexy bohemian theme- sob. We almost completed our entourage and sorted out our sponsors, so to all of our rich friends sorry you guys did not make the cut for the entourage, you guys are SPONSORS ok PRIMARY SPONSORS.

We started with Rub's Ultimate Fries -fries, bacon, pulled pork, jalapenos and cheese.

This came first instantly so we were delighted to have something to munch on while waiting. Taste was like BBQ trying hard Chili. Interesting yet pleasing. Not too BBQ-y, not too salty and a plus not too spicy -perfect.

We learned our lesson at Racks the week before this, we ordered a full slab EACH. So this time we ordered what the waiter recommended, singles.

Well this one looks sad but hey it was actually filling.

He ordered SINGLES -was this a sign God?, ribs+ one side+ rice serves one.

Ribs- not that tender, he used the knife provided and sporadically his hands like a cave man. 

Rib sauce bbq- LOVE IT :) 

Coleslaw- the taste was OK. The portion was a roll eyes, c'mon it was tiny. 

Rice- your regular home cooked rice. 

Mine was Chicken Cajun Pasta- chicken cajun+ white cream sauce+ linguine. 

A bit disappointed and yet moderately pleased. 

Bad points first: 

-too much white cream sauce- look, it is basically a thick soup pasta. 

-chicken cajun: dry poor chicken. 

Good points: 

It tasted good actually, aside from the over powering sauce. I say give it a try. 

Look so much sauce. 

If I can sauce so much as this pasta maybe my current BF wouldn't think I am dull in bed- There goes your appetite burf. 

***SECOND VISIT*** 

It is normal for a girl to pamper her self after break up just to feel pretty and wanted. 

After I bugged, begged and forced my mom to accompany me to spa we ended up driving all the way to Kapitolyo to continue on the pampering, this time pampering our taste buds. 

Since it was just around 10:30 am, we decided to share SUPER DUO- ribs+ two sides served two.

Our sides were: 

Sprice (spiced fried rice)- My mom doesn't want her rice with color and any thing chunky in it. So we ended up ordering separate regular steamed rice. 

I am ok with it actually. Spices were delightful, rice were well cooked and not too oily for a fried rice it is nice. Hey that rhyme! 

Roasted Garlic Mashed Potato- Not a hint of garlic so yes it a regular I-can-do-much-better-version-of mash-potato-at-home kind of mash potato. Good points were the portion and it was a bit chunky. 

My mom has a healthy appetite so I ordered salad just in case. 

BBQ Chicken Salad- lettuce+ bbq chicken tenders+ dressing+ veggies and crispy strips. 

It's filling for sure but that is it. Lettuce was crisp, chicken tenders was dry- no surprise there, and the dressing was blah. 

And to think that Super Duo serves 2. Rub Ribs my mom challenges your serving portions. 

***THIRD VISIT*** 

Look baby remember this, you were in Cebu and my dad, my mom and I had our after Sunday's mass lunch here and I was chatting you the whole time. You said you wanna try this out when you get back home. Well we just broke up last night so I guess you wont be coming here with me. We drove pass this one time when we had our light dinner at Charlie's, you can see the Menu at the end of this blog so you can check it out before going there. I encourage you to dine here because I know you'll like it. Hopefully your new GF wont mind to get her hand dirty and to smell smoky BBQ after.

Family Brunch- ribs+ 3 sides serves 4 

Our Sides: 

Sprice (Rice with spices): same as my last review 

Coleslaw: see tiny serving.

Bacon and Potato Salad: do you see any bacon bits there? neither did we. It was just big chunks of boiled potato with bacon something dressing, really really disappointing. 

Shrimp and Cilantro Pasta shrimp+ garlic+ olive oil+ cilantro+ linguine 

This was sad- like break ups you thought you made a right decision then boom it bites you straight to your face. There's nothing you can do but cry yourself to sleep, bury yourself in your bed the whole day, eat like a hungry lion, smoke and get drunk. Then after all that it wont make you feel anything less sad, in fact you'll feel the same, it hurts the same and you'll cry the same like it was just last night.

Wait, it was just last night. hahaha. I guess I have long way to go. 

Almost forgot the pasta thing- again this pasta tasted like a rebound. Looks, sounds and you actually think its good for you but no. 

Bad points: 

Pasta was hard, chewy and tasted old. 

Shrimp: over cooked 

cilantro: I love cilantro but it did not save the pasta 

Good Points: 

Oily yummy oily garlic-y pasta

Stacy's- home is where the heart is

I was running late to a photo shoot and I thought my Google map was acting up, in my mind I picture Stacy's, our venue, as an upscale restaurant not a cafe. But oh boy, I did not know I was in a pleasant and a yummy surprise.

Like 50's Dinner the whole theme of the cafe was like 50's sickly sweet old fashioned pastel land. Unlike 50's Dinner it has a cozy, homey, relaxed and good vibe feel to it- may be all those brightly colored Cath Kidston apron sucks all the bitterness of those dining in.

*** FIRST VISIT***

Staff were warm and smiling- good for the business.

To begin your meal with good vibe our server gave us a mug full of plain salted popcorn, 2-4 marsh mallows and a pink strawberry pretzel. It was past our lunch time so that so called wait time munches was consumed in seconds.

Serving was a bit slow but they would gladly refill your mug of joy.

Real Deal Nachos

I Love this!

It's like nachos for those weight watchers but it tasted so good definitely you wont mind the small amount of El paso ground beef here. Duh best!

Stacy's Spaghetti and Meat Balls

My meal was OK not OMG IT IS SOOOOO GOOD but not $#*% BAD. It was just OK. It did not taste cheap, the serving size was hefty enough to make an extra medium girl like me full. Yes you read it right- EXTRA MEDIUM- borderline "feeling payat pa" to FAT na.

The meat balls was like home made with extra love.

Back when I was air thin this is considered a whole meal already. Liked the bread so much.

I have to rate ex BF's meal OK again, just because I am loyal to my tita's tapa and I have not yet tasted more sumptuous than her home made tapa.

Tapa- way too salty and hard

Rice- like home made garlic rice, comfort food to the finest

Scrambled eggs- like what my Mom wants her egg; less salt, under cooked and fluffed.

Not a fan of fried garlic garnish, scrambled eggs and heart shaped garlic rice was just way too cheesy for me. You know Stacy walang forever ok.

***SECOND VISIT***

Saw a post in FB says 90% of relationships is deciding where to eat.

That mostly true especially when you are picky as hell. So after arguing where to eat in BGC my ex Bf and I decided to dine to our comfort zone- Stacy's.

Spicy Lemon Shrimp Scampi with Angel Hair.

I so love how spicy blended well to that lemony seafood taste plus the oily, garlic-y, herb-ed pasta just made it perfect.

This is a feel good pasta right here.

I am so digging that they de-vein the shrimps ie- no allergy shit. Yey!

Texas Barbecue Ribs

My ex BF rave the ribs he said it was good. He love the sauce, he said that the carrots and corn was canned- how he knew that is still a mystery. I love that it was tender like fall of the bone tender and the BBQ sauce was good.

It was good that is all I can say :)

***THIRD VISIT***

Do you ever come to a point that you ask yourself what you did right to deserve a close to perfect relationship, you become BF with your long time friend and it is just adorable, convenient and close to perfect. Then bad things happened and all your dreams together became blurry and everything you planned together one by one falls apart and all you can do is see your "close to prefect relationship" shatter and break.

This was our first meal together as ex bf and ex gf.

Dear John Sardine Pasta

It was like the Spicy Lemon Shrimp Scampi with Angel Hair but with more saltier seafood- the sardine and spaghetti instead of angle hair.

I am so into oily garlic-y Pasta. This is just love.

Buffalo Wings Flings

Their take on a great New York Classic given an Asian flair. 4 pcs. of crispy fried drumettes and side chicken wings indulgently blended in very own honey-orange and sweet chili sauce. Served with a steaming cup of parsley rice and a side of greens with Caesar dressing.

***OREO CHEESE CAKE COOKIE***

Look at that, pleasure at every bite.

It tasted like your grandmothers well loved cookies. Soft, hint of coconut flakes, not to sweet, not to salty (because of the cream cheese) and most of all chunky. I love to bite on something in my cookies. This is pure love right here and to consider I hate Oreo - dont judge me!
